Book Overview
Published anonymously in 1830 (and later republished under titles like Private Yankee Doodle), this memoir is one of the most famous, frequently cited, and uniquely grounded first-hand accounts of the American Revolutionary War. Written when Martin was roughly seventy years old, it recounts his experiences as a young, ordinary foot soldier who fought throughout nearly the entire conflict. It is surprisingly readable with moments of humor.
This is an LCGS membership group, although visitors may attend a single session.
