Join us via Zoom for a discussion of Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. Based on the notorious real-life scandal of Georgia Tann—the Memphis adoption director who kidnapped and sold poor children to wealthy families—this riveting novel weaves together two timelines.

In 1939 Memphis, twelve-year-old Rill Foss and her siblings are snatched from their family’s Mississippi shantyboat and forced into a cruel orphanage, where Rill must fight to keep her family together. In present-day South Carolina, wealthy federal prosecutor Avery Stafford uncovers a long-hidden history that links her own family to this dark past, leading her on a journey of devastation and redemption.
