Area Specific Groups
 
Canadian Roots - for members researching ancestors in Canada. Kim Short is willing to assist individuals by appointment on the 3rd Thursday of each month from January through April after our Monthly Membership Meeting; or on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from January through April after the DNA SIG meeting -- at a mutually convenient location such as the Public Library, LCGS Resource Room, or a local restaurant.
 
English Roots - for members researching ancestors in England. This group usually meets from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on the 2nd Friday of each month from October through May. They gather in the LCGS Resource Room found at the Harvey Engelhardt Funeral Home at 1600 Colonial Blvd. in Fort Myers. Questions? Please contact Bev Sierpina.
 
Irish Roots - for Members researching their ancestors from Ireland. This group usually meets from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. German Roots - for members researching ancestors from Germany other German-speaking countries. This group usually meets from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the 2nd Friday of each month from October through May. New York-New England Roots - for members researching ancestors in New York State and the New England States of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. This group usually meets from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the 4th Tuesday of the months of January, February, March, and April. Genealogy Software Program Support
An opportunity for members to discuss application issues, demonstrate program operations, features and answer questions. The use of laptop computers is encouraged.
 
Family Tree Maker - this group usually meets from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on the 1st Wednesday of each month from November through May. Your Family History
 
Writers Group – for members wishing to go beyond recording names, dates and places, to interweave interesting facts about their ancestors' lives, placing individuals in a social and historical context. This group usually meets from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the 1st Tuesday of each month. Members gather in the LCGS Resource Room found at the Harvey Engelhardt Funeral Home at 1600 Colonial Blvd. in Fort Myers. Questions? Please contact Vickie Greenlee.
 
DNA - the LCGS DNA Special Interest Group is open to members who have an interest in using DNA testing for genealogy or family history research. Those totally new to genetic genealogy will find if DNA testing is right for them; experienced members might learn a new skill or help others in the group. Meeting dates and/or times may be moved due to space availability. If you are interested in attending the LCGS DNA SIG, contact Arthur Sissman to be placed on the DNA SIG notification list for meeting dates/times.
