Sarah Basco 2011 Award Winner

The Lee County Genealogical Society has established an annual High School Youth Award to encourage students in Grades 11 and 12 in any Lee County Florida high school, to become family historians and begin researching their heritage.

At the May 19th LCGS monthly meeting, President Carol Rooksby Weidlich presented the first annual High School Youth Award to Sara Basco, a senior at Bishop Verot High School.  Sarah earned this award for her genealogy research submission which demonstrated a fundamental understanding of genealogy research including documentation and biographical writing. At the meeting a cash award of $500.00 was presented to Sarah.  Earlier in the month on May 6, Mrs. Weidlich presented Sarah with an Award Certificate at the Senior Awards Assembly at Bishop Verot High School and encouraged next years junior and senior class to take part in this competition.
